Siebel Tool
Siebel Tool
Siebel tool is an Integrate Development Environment for Siebel Developers. The tool consists of a single active repository where all Siebel codes are stored. This repository in returns is comprised of different Siebel Object, for e.g. Applet, Business Component, Integration Object to name a few. The physical repository lives on the SQL servers.
Each Siebel Developer has Siebel Tool installed in his/her computer and is assigned a single database ID to access it.
The process of developing and fixing Siebel Application is done as follow:
* Developer logs into Siebel Tool
* Developer checks out a Siebel Project from the repository
* Developer makes changes to the codes
* Developer checks in the codes back to the repository.
At one time, there’s only one developer who can checkout the project that is to prevent the other developer from making changes to the same project.
All fixes that needed to be promoted to Production environment goes through the following processes:
* Users have tested and agreed to promote to production.
* Developer checks in the codes to UAT Siebel Tool
* Developer puts up a request in the Siebel Tracking Sheet (Maintained by Siebel TA)
* Siebel TA consolidates the fixes from the Tracking sheet and does a backup of the respective Siebel Object that needed to be deployed to the Production environment.
* Siebel TA promotes the changes to the Production Siebel Tool
Another built in features provided by Siebel Tool is the Code Merge capability. This capability enables developer to safely promote codes changes to the Siebel Tool without compromise the integrity of the codes i.e. to avoid overwritten other developers’ codes.
