An Update from Canberra, Australia

I have landed in Canberra one week back, on 13th February around 10 a.m to be exact. We (I with my brother, Sokhom) were fetched by a student helper (jeremy) organized by the International Student Services to a place where I live in now. It was Fenner hall.

Fenner hall is an external hall of resident which is located outside the ANU (Australian National University). It may take up to 20 minutes by foot towards the school. It is a self catered hall, which mean there is no food provided. However, there is a large community kitchen on the ground floor where each student could cook for him/herself. It costs 281 Australian Dollar per forthnight (two weeks). This price does not cover the Internet Fee though. I got to pay 10 Australian dollar for about 140MB of download quota.

Besides the hall, ANU is a very large university itself. It covers around 450HA of land and it is situated near to the city (they call it the civic). ANU has many asian students as well. I have seen mostly Chinese and Indians. There are some Korean as well.

Many people said Canberra is “VERY” quiet. For me, I would not consider it is “TOO” quiet. I could see cars moving around. There are people at the restaurants, foodcourts, banks and cinema (Oh ya, i went to the cinema last Sunday to watch Ghost Rider). On the contrary, if we compare Singapore and Canberra. or Phnom Penh and Canberra, definitely Canberra will be the quieter city, but again not “TOO” quiet.

The weather in Canberra is nice too. Now it is summer and the weather hardly go up to 35 degree. It is cooling during night time and sunny during daytime. I have heard my brother, Sokhom, which is now in Melbourne said that the sun is melting everyone in Melbourne now. No one can go out under the sun there. So you see! weather in Canberra is indeed wonderful.

Oh ya, I finally have started my class since Monday. I have 4 subjects. They are E-Commerce for Mangement, Financial Accounting,Commercial law and Financial Reporting.

Finally, just wanna wish everyone a Happy Chinese New year. May the new year bring everyone lucks and success. This applies to me too : ).
