Bad Facebook Application lead to heavy phone bill
Facebook is one of the largest social networking site on earth. It has many easy to use applications. Some are pretty interesting while others are nothing more than an ads-intensive application.
Some are bad applications that may lead you to face heavy financial problem like an application that requires you to input your phone number in return for a sms to tell you who your crush is. This application will charge you $$$ for every message sent to you. It could be very expensive. Below is the email I have received from ANU’s International Student Service Manager, Ms. Ann Bell regarding this manner:
I have been informed that there is an Application on Facebook that requests you sign up with your mobile phone number and sends alerts about someone having a “crush ” on you. You need to be aware that you will be charged for this service and this charge may not be included in any caps or plans you may have. It could get very expensive. If you have signed up and want to block further access you need to send a text reply saying “stop”.
We have had a number of distressed students with large bills as a result of this particular application.
All the best
In short, the next time you add a facebook application, ask yourself if you do really need it. Do not simply add it because “my friend add it” syndrome.
Good luck.
Dom
Ps: online is a scary world and you never know if there’s someone out there spying on you! watch your back!
